Update: In total, with 11,619 backers, the group finished with $600,874

De La Soul set up a Kickstarter page to fund their first album in eleven years, and the strong support from fans led to them reaching their $110,000 goal in a matter of hours. Posdnous, Dave, and Maseo said that asking fans to support their new project made sense, and the group promised to "make music without limits" in return, including sampling themselves.

De La Soul explained, "We are now in the process of going back to that 200+ hours of music, listening, enjoying and discovering those special moments where, musically, something magical happens, where interesting sounds and layers were forgotten, where new sounds can be sampled, looped, chopped, filtered and arranged, freely, without the intrusive presence of publishing politics and the infamous 'sample police.'"

In return for the donations, fans will be rewarded with some exciting perks, including a chance to be on the album, which will run you $7,500, and a VIP package complete with Dave's own "3 Feet High & Rising" platinum plaque for $10,000. More affordable packages include autographed merchandise, exclusive t-shirts, and an early release of the album.
