A woman from Alabama is facing a lifetime sentence for killing her granddaughter for eating chocolate, Yahoo reports.

Joyce Garrard was found guilty of capital murder last week for the murder of nine-year-old Savannah Hardin. The incident happened in 2012 when the 50-year-old found out Hardin had ignored her wishes by eating chocolate candies. Hardin, who had a bladder infection at the time wasn't allowed to eat the candy. After getting off her school bus, Garrard ordered the child to run for three hours while carrying wood.

The child died several days later from dehydration and low sodium.

The judge in the trial will determine if Garrard will face a lifetime in jail or the death penalty during a hearing on May 11.
