American Apparel sparked outrage after the contents of a March 18 email blast sent to models was found to contain a tasteless reference to "Instagram hoes and thots." The email, obtained by the NY Post on Tuesday, was sent by LA casting agent Phira Luon and read in part:

"[The] company is going through a rebranding image so will be shooting models moving forward. Real models. Not Instagram hoes or THOTs."

Angry Twitter and Instagram users lit up social media demanding that the struggling clothing company apologize. While American Apparel has yet to comment on the email, Luan followed it up with an apology for the "inappropriate off color joke that was not intended to defame the clients name or philosophy/views in anyway."
