An upcoming Drake documentary entitled "Drake's Homecoming: The Lost Footage" is set to hit select theaters tomorrow (March 19th) and has been met with some resistance from the film's star, Drake himself.
"The Drake Homecoming film is not something OVO or Drake have any part in. I feel it is my responsibility to inform and protect my fans," Drake tweeted in regards to the film. James & Jas Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records, who are credited as producers of the film, are standing by Drake's decision to distance himself from the project as well. Since the "Energy" rapper took to Twitter to bash the project, producers are considering suing him for libel to the tune of $15 million.
"Personally, I think he should honor his commitments," producer Mark Berry told the LA Times. "Bottom line is, you signed a contract. You got to honor it."
Drake reportedly signed a contract with concert promoters Serious Entertainment that included an agreement for the film. Serious eventually was able to bring Rap-A-Lot Records on board as well. The contract states that Drake was paid $15,000 cash and promised 15% royalties for his participation in the film. Serious claims that since the 2009 agreement was reached, they've approached Drake and Cash Money Records several times to see if they wanted to buy back the footage, but they declined.
