Many have either seen instances of rape on television, or have probably heard horrific tales of these jail occurrences (i.e. friends or family), but when an individual witnesses such a ghastly act of this magnitude first hand, do they turn a blind eye or spring into action to save the life of the victim? A throng of Riker's Island inmates did the latter, and swarmed into action on the behalf of a female correctional officer who was on the verge of being raped by 27 year-old Raleek Young – a convicted rapist – who is already serving a 5-10 year bid.

During the attack, Young, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 290 pounds, allegedly dragged the officer into a bathroom and blocked her from opening the security door. While in there, Young pulled down his pants and began pleasuring himself, while choking the female officer. The inmates along with responding officers helped tear away Plexiglass on the outside of the bubble-like watch post inside the Anna M. Kross Center at 8:15 p.m., as reported by multiple sources.

One inmate, who was said to be skinny, somehow managed to slip inside the bubble-like post through a small crack and was able to open the security door. Young managed to sneak himself inside the bubble area after claiming he needed to pick up his mattress in another unit, and had to pass through the watch post.

The incident, which was captured on video, was deemed a 'routine attack' by the administration, which has since angered other guards, who called for this incident to be labeled as a sexual assault. As a result, the guards refused to go their post on Sunday as a form of protest against the administration.

Young, who was arraigned on March 2nd, is now facing brand new charges, which includes attempted rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, assault and harassment.
