Thanks to a picture taken by photographer Brandon Stanton, 6th graders from the Mott Hall Bridges Academy in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY, will be able to go on a potentially life-changing tour of Harvard University.

Stanton created the "Humans Of New York" project, which consists of the young photog snapping loads of flicks of various people in numerous locations on the streets of New York.  He launched the project back in 2010, and thanks to the hard work that he's put in over the years, a great outcome has been generated for many young underprivileged students at the Brownsville middle school.  A recent photo that Stanton snapped of 13-year-old 8th grader Vidal Chastanet, on January 19th, quickly went viral across social media sites and inspired him to reach out to Mott Hall Bridges Academy Principal Nadia Lopez.

Lopez had high hopes of setting up a program to take the incoming 6th grade classes to Harvard in order to broaden their horizons and potentially help motivate them to strive for more in their lives from a younger age.  Stanton began a fundraiser for the program on IndieGoGo on January 22nd, and within just a few short days, he surpassed his goal of accumulating $100,000 in donations to over $1,000,000.

He estimated that the cost of the trip would be $30,000, and wanted $100,000 so that Principal Lopez could take three different classes on the trip.  Now that so much money has been raised, the incoming 6th grade classes of the Mott Hall Bridges Academy middle school will be able to go on these trips for years to come. Stanton also announced that all of the money raised over $700,000 will go towards setting up scholarships for the Mott Hall Bridges Academy graduates.

This is truly an amazing accomplishment that could help change the lives of many young children who attend the Brooklyn school.  If you'd be interested in donating to the Mott Hall Bridges Academy, you can make a donation at IndieGoGo here.

The total amount of money raised thus far is $1,118,556 and counting.
