After setbacks and constant riffs with other artists, Azealia Banks opened up to Rolling Stone about her delayed debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, growing up in the public eye and why she's ready to make more mature music just weeks after her release.

The "212" rapper says she was thrilled to release her album unexpectedly because she was ready for her fans to hear the two-year-old album. With her previous labels (Interscope and Polydor) giving her the runaround, Banks says she was able to have the power to release the album on her own time.

"My heart was pounding," she said when she tweeted about the album's release. "I was sitting at my dining table with my head-wrap on, in my panties and a T-shirt, with my iPad. It was just happiness and relief and yes, yes. I didn't really believe it was going to come out the day that my managers had told me. I'd get a date from the label, then it wouldn't come out. You just feel stupid after a while."

Now that the album is finally out to the public, the rapper says the songs on the album remind of her of the person she used to be instead of who she is now.

"I'm just sad for you that it took this long for you to hear it," she said. "This was popping to me when I was 21. A lot of the old songs are a very little girl's way of thinking: 'Yeah, my p****, mmmm, da da da, I'ma get you with sex.' Now that I'm 23, my lyrical content is a little more mature."

Broke With Expensive taste received rave reviews from critics for her eclectic approach to rap. So far, the 23-year-old has sold over 15,000 copies since its Nov. 6 release.
