A 12-year-old was killed by a Cleveland police officer after mistaking the child's air-soft gun for a real one on Saturday.

According to Buzzfeed, the boy was in the playground on the swing with the toy in his hands. After someone called 911 to alert police of the boy carrying the gun, police arrived at the park and tried to subdue the child. The details behind the shooting then get blurry. A police statement revealed that the 12-year-old reached for the BB gun after being told to put his hands up, while another report says the police asked him to drop the weapon even though he had it on his waistband.

The child was struck in the torso and died Sunday morning after an unsuccessful surgery Saturday evening. Police pointed out that the orange tip which informs whether the gun is fake or not was removed.

The 911 call was released earlier today with the 911 call describing the child as a "guy" and says " The gun is probably fake, but it's scaring the s***out of me."

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office informed reporters that the officer in the incident has been placed on administrative leave as an investigation is currently underway.
