Kendrick Lamar's performance on Saturday Night Live last week brought back memories of Ol' Dirty Bastard. With Kendrick rocking his hair half done and sporting black contacts, many fans believed the rapper was channeling ODB. In an interview with MTV News, RZA says he saw the performance as a sign of respect from the TDE rapper. The director and producer added that he was celebrating ODB's birthday when someone showed him a video of Kendrick's performance.

"He just said to me, 'Yo I just feel like Kendrick is showing respect to Dirty right now, do you see this,'" he said. "I looked at it and said, 'Wow, that looks [like] respect to me too.'"

RZA says he doesn't know for sure if the ODB-inspired performance was purposely done, but either way it shows ODB's effect on artists, 10 years after his death.

"Dirty is a unique MC, a unique artist that's in our time period of this world," he said. "And it's good when you see other artists — whether it was done intentionally, maybe he didn't even think that... it definitely made me nod my head. We miss Ason, see miss him."
