After 13 long seasons in the NBA, Jason Collins has finally retired today, November 19th. He made history back in April of 2013, when he finally made the decision to come out of the closet and reveal his sexuality to the entire world. With Collins' revelation, he became the first openly gay professional athlete.
Jason made the announcement on The Players Tribune earlier today, in a lengthy written address to his fans. Since the announcement was made, many fans have since come forward sharing their input on the news. A great amount of NBA fans did not seem to be too moved by his retirement, and pointed out that the only reason they believe this is getting so much attention is because of his sexual orientation. However, there were others who showed him great praise amid his retirement.
