While autorities are awaiting an official confirmation from forensic officials, Honduras' National Police Director, Ramon Sabillon, is almost positive that the bodies of Miss Honduras 2014 and her older sister have been found.
19-year-old beauty Maria Jose Alvarado, and her 23-year-old sister Sofia, went missing six days ago on November 13th, but thanks to a confession from Sofia's boyfriend, Plutarco Ruiz, both of their bodies have been found in a mountainous river bank area in Santa Barbara. His reason for killing the two young women was a pitiful crime of passion, which all stemmed from Mr. Ruiz becoming enraged by Sofia dancing with another man while they were out celebrating his birthday at the La Aguagua spa.
Mr. Ruiz confessed that he and an accomplice, Aris Maldonado, buried their bodies after Ruiz shot Sofia to death, and later Maria after she tried to flee. They decided to bury their bodies near the river so that they could decompose quicker. Both Mr. Ruiz and his accomplice have since been arrested after leading police to the burial sight.
Honduras' National Police Director, Ramon Sabillon, stated that based off of the appearance of the bodies, Maria and Sofia were shot and killed the night that they went missing. He went on to give his assurance that the bodies found are Maria and Sofia's, despite the fact that the forensic confirmation has yet to be made.
"I can confirm that the Alvarado sisters were found," Sabillon said. "We also have the murder weapon and the vehicle in which they were transported to the site where they were buried."
Maria was scheduled to compete in the Miss World Pageant next month in London, but due to her tragic passing, Honduras will not compete this year.
