Former MLB player Jose Canseco has officially said goodbye to his middle finger after the damaged digit fell off during a poker tournament Thursday night, the Daily Mail reports.

Canseco accidentally shot off his middle finger a few weeks ago while cleaning his gun in his Las Vegas home. His fiance, Leila Knight assured fans that the player's finger was successfully reattached, but the player faced a setback during a poker match. In a series of tweets, Canseco details what happened at the tournament and his regret on holding on to his severed finger.

"OK well I might as well tell you I was playing in a poker tournament last night and my finger fell off," he tweeted. "Someone took a video of it. My finger should have been amputated from the beginning. It was very loose with no bone to connect it.it was also smelling really bad."

In an interview with Inside Edition, Canseco says that the bullet just missed his fiancé when it went off. He added that the incident has traumatized him.

Since his interview, the player has a lighter perspective on the accident and even posted a photo of his finger with some jokes.
