Jay Sean, one of Cash Money's first successful pop acts has departed from the label.

According to Billboard, the singer decided to leave the label to revisit his R&B roots. While the singer has been low key in the U.S., he has seen international success for over 10 years. His first pop hit was "Down" with Lil Wayne in 2009 and has been named the fifth best selling digital song by a British act.

The singer had kind words for his former bosses Birdman and Slim. He says he will always have a great relationship with his Cash Money family.

"I have and still maintain a great relationship with Slim and Baby [CEOs of Cash Money]," he said. "They believed in me and my talent and our partnership obviously garnered a lot of pop success. It got to the point where I was chasing pop success and 'the smash' when really my heart wasn't in it anymore. That's not why I got into this game."

Following his departure, Jay Sean has released the visuals to "Tears in the Ocean" a track from his upcoming Mistress II mixtape to be released in November.

Jay Sean says he wants to continue to make music with substance for the sake of his fans and himself.

"When Sade drops a new album, you know she's not going to be suddenly singing over a EDM beat produced by the hottest DJ at the time or jumpin' on the bandwagon of what the latest 'sound' is." "You should be able to do you. That's what differentiates an artist from a singer."
