While many people feel T-Pain's consistent usage of auto-tune early in his career may not have been what's best for Hip-Hop culture, his influence has become undeniable, as artists like Future, Kirko Bangz, Ty Dolla $ign and others have clearly taken what the Tallahassee native popularized and added their own spin to it.

Unfortunately, in the midst of receiving serious backlash for what many called over-usage of the voice-altering technique, T-Pain was quite literally in pain, and recently admitted to Vibe that he developed a drinking problem from all the hate.

"Around the time when people were hating on me about Auto-Tune, I was drinking as much as I could to get away from my problems, crying to myself. I've almost lost fingers from punching glass and pictures. I turned into a raging alcoholic. If I could talk to myself then, I would say, "Stop trying to get approval from these wack ni**as that's only gonna take your style."

The "Buy U a Drank" singer also spoke on regretting his decision to often neglect his family early in his career, admitting he wasn't the best husband and father and often chose the wild nightlife over them.

"I could have been around my kids more. I was young, so I felt like I wasn't ready to sit down and be a dad. My wife and daughter were living in Tallahassee, and I wanted to go out to the club and do all that extra shit. My wife would be like, "Can we come see you?" And I would be like, "Well, not this weekend because I'm going to the club."

Pain also spoke on violence in Florida, a topic of great discussion over the past year, saying his uncle was killed by police simply for "looking suspect." As he's been called out in the past for not caring or speaking up about it, he says he's just seen it all before and has perhaps become numb to the violence, but it certainly doesn't mean he doesn't care.

Overall, however, Pain is in a much better place and is ready to drop some fire, admitting that his last album wasn't up to par.

"I f**ked up on my last album because I listened to somebody else. I wasn't proud of myself. That's not something I want to do anymore. No matter how many times people try to f**k with that Auto-Tune style, nobody's done it better than me. And I'm still gonna be the best at this s**t no matter what."
