Lil Durk took to Instagram to pay respects to one of his fans after he was fatally shot.

According to CBS Chicago, Maxwell Gadau, was fatally shot in the back over the weekend as he was helping out a female friend at a party.

Gadau's parents, Peter and Patti Gadau, shared with reporters his final moments. Patti says that they received a text message from Maxwell saying he was at a party when a female friend wanted him to come outside with her. While they aren't aware of why he stepped out of the party, they assumed he was trying to protect his friend.

"He was at a house with four or five people," Patti said. "Apparently one of the girls that were there had asked Max to come outside with her to meet some people. It was thought to be drugs, but could also be money."

Police say that the 17-year-old was shot in the back while he stood next to the female's car. He was pronounced dead at the hospital while the unknown female is listed in critical condition.

As police try to find a motive in the homicide, classmates claim the teen's death could possibly be gang related since he was known to falsely claim GDK or Gangster Disciples Killers. GDK is a gang that Durk has had ties to in the past.

Durk didn't give any insight into the shooting, but did send condolences to the family on Instagram.

"Rest in peace to one of my fans that just got killed my condolence goes out to his family."

No arrests have been made in the shooting.
