French Montana shared his thoughts on battle rappers, his Mac & Cheese project, and why his debut Excuse My French wasn't as well received as planned.

The album, released in May 2013, marked his debut on Bad Boy Records and pushed 56,000 units on in its first week. Overall the album sold 90,000 copies.

Since the rapper released multi-platinum singles like "Pop That" and "Freaks," French explains that the album was made for the general public rather than his core audience.

"I feel like the Excuse My French album was more dedicated to being, you know, your first deal you try to do something, something for them," he said. "You ain't really like took what got you to this point to make the album. Not saying it's not a good album. It's the best album I could have made at that time. But I also had this Mac & Cheese series that I was doing that I wanted to do an album just like that. So, that was the difference between this one and that one."

He also shared stories of his early battle rap days, and says he's not interested in going back to those days.

"Never, cause I don't have the time to sit there to write 300 bars to look at myself in the mirror and to have remembered it," he said. "You can do that in the beginning not when you're at the central part of your career. If I do battle someone, it would be someone on my level.
