Don't get TDE's Kendrick Lamar confused with your typical artist -- he doesn't consider his songs simply singles released by a record company to make money, but statements that can affect the livelihood of those that listen.

In a recent interview with Los Angeles' Power 106 FM, the Compton-based emcee broke down his musical manifesto.

"I want to retract the word 'single,'" Kendrick Lamar told Jeff G of Power 106. "I want to call things that I release 'statements' because this music is something that the world has to hear and it's not only for me, but it's for the stress. It's for our livelihoods. When I want to come back on my release, I want to make sure I do just that and continue that."

This week, K. Dot released "i", the first 'statement' from his as-of-yet-untitled sophomore album.
