More details are starting to be brought to light in Adrian Peterson's child abuse case.

According to Fansided, text messages between Peterson and the child's mother, were released with the athlete talking about the beating he gave his son with a switch.

"Got him in n*** once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I'm all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!" one message allegedly said.

In another message, Peterson says he knows that he went overboard with the punishment after noticing the marks left on the child's body.

"I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch." he said. "Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don't play no games when it comes to acting right."

The Minnesota Vikings running back won't play in today's game against the New England Patriots.

It isn't known when he will return to work.
