Stephen A. Smith stirred up a lot of controversy last week when he proclaimed that women shouldn't "provoke" men to attack them, a statement that was immediately questioned by his co-anchors and viewers who thought his assessment was essentially victim blaming in nature.

Smith apologized for his statement on Monday's edition of "First Take," but ESPN has still chosen to suspend the popular sports analyst for a week, and much of Twitter thought that was a huge over-reaction, comparing his situation to that of the NFL's Ray Rice who was seen dragging his fiancee's body out of an elevator, yet was only suspended by the league for two games.
