With Joe Budden and Hollow Da Don about to make history and propel the culture of Battle Rap to new heights, many fans have been eagerly waiting to see which mainstream artist will be the next to step into the lyrical ring.  While Canibus was the first big name to try (and sadly fail), Ab-Soul was the next truly big Hip Hop name to test his battle skills against Daylyt on his These Days album.  Ab-Soul did impressively well, and gave hope for other major Hip Hop influences to do the same.

While Daylyt and Ab-Soul's battle took place inside of a small room with only a few people watching them, Joe Budden vs Hollow Da Don is truly taking Battle Rap to new heights, for they will be performing at the Hammerstein Ballroom in front of thousands of screaming fans.  Not to mention, they've already had major TV exposure to help promote the event, and that will only continue to increase due to the fact that for the first time ever, Battle Rap will be available for viewing, live on Pay-Per-View.

Hollow Da Don and Joe Budden both have a lot of weight resting on their shoulders.  Hollow is battling for the respect of Battle Rap under the mainstream spotlight, meanwhile Joe, is trying to show that the more mainstream or general industry rappers could compete with the best lyrical combatants in the world.  It remains to be seen if Joe can mold his lyrical bars to fit the Battle Rap formula, and if he succeeds, you can expect many more rap artists to be eager to step in the ring.  However, if he loses, who knows when Battle Rap fans will see a big Hip Hop name even make the attempt again.

It is because of this pivotal moment in Battle Rap history, that we've decided to craft a list of the Top 50 Mainstream Rappers We'd Like to See Battle Rap.  We've blended both some of the newer "PG" class of mainstream artists with the veteran names who've been around for decades.  The rappers selected were chosen for various reasons such as, having history of engaging in diss-track beefs with other artists, lyrical ability, performance presence, their personal involvement with the Battle Rap culture, whether actual Battle Rappers have expressed an interest in seeing them battle, or the general weight that their name holds within the industry.  We tried to focus on artists who've received some type of commercial exposure within the last 10 years or so.

Check out our list above, and if there is any big Hip Hop name that you think should be added, please feel free to comment below.  Hopefully this will spark some future matchups involving commercial rappers competing in the lyrical arena.
