Award-winning writer, teacher, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou was found unresponsive at her Winston Salem, NC home on Wednesday (May 28) morning. As soon as news broke, her famous friends began paying tribute online to the inspirational poet.
One of the most touching tributes came from Oprah, who said she was "blessed to have Maya Angelou as my mentor, mother/sister, and friend since my 20's." The entertainment mogul added that Maya had helped her through some of the most difficult times in her life, and was most impressed by the way she lived her life.
