It was announced last night, April 30th, that the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Mike D'Antoni, has resigned from his position and will not be returning for the '14-'15 season.

ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne reported that the Lakers were unwilling to put their faith in D'Antoni for the final season of his contract, which D'Antoni felt would've been beneficial for the team because he could just focus on coaching without having to worry constantly about his employment status.

Since the Lakers organization was unwilling to bet on Mike, they came up with a settlement will pay him over half of the $4 million he would've earned for coaching next season.  The settlement did, however, leave room for the Lakers to take back some of that money if Mike manages to land another coaching position this year.

The Lakers suffered their worst season in franchise history this season with a record of 27-55 under D'Antoni's coaching.  Lakers living legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson has always been very critical of D'Antoni's coaching techniques, and was beyond ecstatic when he heard the news that D'Antoni wasn't returning for next season.  He took to Twitter to express his happiness about the situation.

Check out his tweets and those from the Lakers organization detailing the situation.
