Chauncey Mahan, Jay Z's former engineer who allegedly contacted Live Nation to get $100,000 for the rapper's master recordings, says that the rap star should be thanking him for storing the valuable tracks. According to TMZ, Jay Z's people accused Mahan of stealing master recordings of his "Volume 3" and "Dynasty" albums.

Chauncey told TMZ that the allegations are false, and says that he was instructed by Def Jam to keep track of the recordings. The producer adds that he told Jay's people several times that he was in possession of the albums, and only asked for money from him after he was unable to keep paying for storage.

Mahan told TMZ that Jay Z "was a stupid kid smoking blunts" and was reckless with his recordings, which is why he was put in charge with keeping track of them. He also says that some of the recordings sound pretty rough, which is why the Brooklyn rapper might be freaking out.

Jay's longtime friend and producer Just Blaze spoke out about the situation on Twitter, claiming that Chauncey was responsible for holding back work on "Get Your Mind Right," "Streets Is Talking" and the intro from The Dynasty: Roc La Familia. He add that Chauncey's missteps are what led to Young Guru stepping in at Roc-A-Fella. You can check out all of his tweets addressing the situation in the above slide.

Police are currently in possession of the tapes until a judge rules on who will take rightful ownership of them.
