While promoting her latest album Food, Kelis talked with The New York Times about coming up with Pharrell and the Star Trak label, her side hustle as a chef and her ex husband Nas.

The "Blindfold Me" singer talked about her cooking show "Saucy & Sweet," and why she's always loved to cook.

"I started with sauces because I was good at it," she said. "I think of it like the way a woman dresses. It's the accessories that define who she is. You and I are both women, but I have an inkling that we dress very differently. We could both wear the same black dress, but the things that we put with it will define who we are. Sauce is the exact same thing for food."

She also cleared up the role her green wedding dress played in Nas' album cover art for his Grammy-nominated album Life is Good.

"It's not even the dress.," she said. "The joke behind that is that it's the slip to the petticoat to my dress. I think when I moved out I just left it. That's all he had, poor thing."

She also says that she doesn't care about the details he released about their divorce since she doesn'tlisten to his music.

"Maybe for others, but not for me," she said. " I don't really listen to his music anyway."

Kelis' sixth album Food hits stores on Friday.
