Lil Boosie gave his first public interview today, Monday, March 10th during his "Boosie Speaks" sit-down with Power 105.1's Angela Yee. It was a great moment for Boosie, as he was given a chance to finally address his incarceration in front of a live audience around the world, as the entire interview was streamed live on UStream. Bun B opened up by spoking very highly of Boosie and the fact that he is a success story for young black men to follow in regards to staying focused and finding success after being free from incarceration. Webbie also spoke briefly after Bun B addressed the audience.
When Boosie came to the stage, he sat next to Angela in a royally designed gold "King" chair, and spoke freely and eloquently about his life in prison and how it feels to be a free man again. Angela asked him what was the first thing that he did after leaving the institution, and Boosie revealed that his first choice of action was to visit his children.
"First thing I did was go to Baton Rouge and picked up my kids. I played with them all day, that's what I did." He joked about having a "football team" worth of children.
Angela backtracked a bit and asked him about his visitation rights in prison, and if he was allowed any special conjugal visits. This opened up the floor to some quality humor as Boosie laughed before he replied, "No, I wasn't getting conjugal visits. I had visits with myself though." His response brought on huge amounts of laughter from everyone in attendance. It was very clear that Boosie was in good spirits.
While locked up Boosie didn't put energy into following the new trends and new artists that emerged over the years. His sole focus was strictly to better himself throughout the course of his prison sentence.
"I had my own room, my own TV. I just focused on my music. I didn't really know about new rappers unless I read Hip Hop Weekly."
While many fans may have had their doubts about his ability to keep his pen game sharp while behind bars, he assured them that he remained focused and dedicated to creating new music despite being locked up for so long, and under strict circumstances.
"I wrote 1,018 songs [in prison]. I'm in the studio every night. I'm working on an album, I'm working. Before I left I was signed to Trill. We feeling to reconstruct this contract, we working on the album."
He even stated that he "has a hit for Justin Bieber."
Keeping such a high level of focus must've been difficult considering he spent 20 months on a strict 23 hour and 45 minute lockdown every day. Boosie revealed that he was only allowed to use the 15 minutes of free time for phone calls.
Since times have changed so much since he first began his prison sentence, Angela Yee asked him about his knowledge of social media and whether or not he has tweeted yet.
"Na, I ain't tweet yet," he replied. "I'll probably tweet something to the fans for showing support. I might go on Instagram straight flexin' today," he joked to the crowd.
Most people who followed the news of Boosie's incarceration throughout the years are aware that he was in contact with C-Murder while in prison. Today, the collaborative single "Came 2 Da Can" that Boosie and C-Murder recorded together was released, and Boosie spoke on his hopes to some day help to make C-Murder a free man again.
"I'd like to help him out. I'd like to see C-Murder come home. That's a real dude."
Although Boosie is under strict probation conditions for possibly the next 4-years which prevent him from traveling freely, he hopes to be allowed to begin traveling for concert shows by the end of March.
"I got a real nice P.O. I like her, so we gonna make it work."
He concluded his public address by speaking on what the future holds for his music career, and how he believes he can find great success among the rest of the artists out today.
"I feel I'm a better artist. I got better stories to tell. Now, I really got stories to tell about my life, what my family went through. I'm stronger and wiser. When you go to jail you know who's down for you and who ain't.
"The rap game wide open for me to take over. It's different from my music, and different brings greatness."
It truly was a joyous event and a great step forward for Boosie in order to further reassert himself among society on a successful path.
