In the past many rappers revealed that their creative process in the booth is best off the top as opposed to being written out on paper. Jay Z and Lil Wayne are two noted rappers who are said to have the ability to craft a record without writing down any of their lyrics. But now you can add Chief Keef and Fredo Santana to that list. According to Fredo himself, he would much rather freestyle in the booth than write his music down.

He elaborated his process in an interview with Village Voice and mentions that his younger cousin Chief Keef does the same. "I don't write. I ain't wrote since like March. I put the headphones on and feel the beat come through my body. I did the "Jealous" song in like five minutes. Promise. Ask the engineer. I'm trying to force [my friends] not to write. Keef don't write no more either. He ain't wrote since like, Finally Rich. Jay, Wayne, Gucci, the best don't write. That's how I stopped. I was in the studio with Gucci [Mane] and [Young] Scooter and I was like, 'Damn these boys going fast as hell.' I was like, 'I'm not writing no more.'"

Fredo also mentions that he didn't really pursue rap at first, as he was hanging around the streets. "I wasn't a rapper at first. I was just a street ni**a that was just rapping on the block, not going into the studio. That's what Keef would do. Then I saw that I got a little fanbase and I wanted to prove to myself and everybody else [that I was a rapper]. That's why I put so much music out. I groomed myself into a rapper. I want to be the best to rap. The best entertainer, entrepreneur. That's what I want to be."

And despite not taking it serious at first, Fredo Santana has huge aspirations as far as the rap game goes. He wants to reach the top of the charts. "No. I still don't think I accomplished it. I don't know. I did a song with Kendrick [Lamar]. He liked it and he's one of the biggest in the game, but I still don't feel I did it. I gotta do the numbers. Billboard, man. I gotta do numbers."
