One of President Barack Obama's top advisers, Dan Pfeiffer, allowed a momentary slip in awareness be the cause for major backlash on Twitter.
Pfeiffer tweeted out, "also a much n*gger factor on the right," when he meant to tweet, "also a much 'bigger' factor on the right." He posted an apologetic tweet following his error, acknowledging his mistake. However, the damage was already done in the eyes of a large number of people.
His tweet was addressing the government shutdown in a thread directed at New York Times National Political Correspondent Jonathan Martin. Pfeiffer initially praised an NBC article which shared analysis on the government shutdown when he wrote, "It's a very smart point and massive factor in political polarization," prior to his "bigger/n*gger" slip-up.
Even though he apologized for the tweet, many Twitter users took the opportunity to "rip him a new one" for his lack of attention to his keyboard.
