Race has always been an ongoing issue within our society. In 2013, with a Black president and a community that is years removed from the damage of slavery, there is still a strong cloud of racial tension.

The media is polarized by those seeking justice for Trayvon, the use of the N-word, Oprah being racially profiled, and the fascination with black hair. It would seem the idea of race and a post-racial world are on the heels of big controversy.

While others may ignore the issue, Hollywood has always depicted the racial disparities of communities throughout its history. With films like Fruitvale Station and Lee Daniel's The Butler, today's moviegoers get a glimpse at the history of what it means to be Black in America. We've compiled a list of classic movies and modern day films that highlight some form of racial tension.
