Kanye West is known for taking drastic steps to ensure his music doesn't hit the Internet before he's good and ready. For "Watch The Throne", he kept the masters stored on external hard drives which required biometric authentication to access. He passed up recording in commercial studios, instead preferring to set up temporary studios in hotel rooms and houses. Only 'Ye's trusted inner circle had access to any of the music.
The Chicago rapper took the same precautions for "Yeezus," as well as foregoing the pre-order iTunes stream process which resulted in the leak of Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories;" however, it still wasn't enough to prevent a leak.
