Sugar Hill Records was the most successful early Hip Hop label, with acts such as the Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and The Treacherous Three. The sons of the co-founders of the label have been receiving plenty of royalties, but haven't been paying taxes on them.
Leland Robinson and his brother Joseph Robinson, Jr. both got house arrest, community service, and hefty fines. The family owed the government almost $1.3 million in unpaid taxes. The brothers pleaded guilty to the charges last year, and just now received their sentences.
