An interracial Virginia couple faced quite the surprise recently, when they came home from Walmart to find a policeman in front of their house. The officer was there to question them about whether or not they were the parents of their children.
Joseph and Keana, neither wanting their last names revealed, were enraged to find out that a Walmart security officer believed Joseph had kidnapped their three daughters.
"He asks us very sincerely, 'Hey, I was sent here by Walmart security. I just need to make sure that the children that you have are your own,'" Joseph explained.
Keana was especially hurt.
"I was dumfounded," she said. "I sat there for a minute and thought, 'Did he just ask us if there were our kids knowing what we went through to have our children?'"
Keana says the officer went on to tell her that a customer had been alarmed by her husband and kids.
"'Well, the customer was concerned because they saw the children with your husband and he didn't think that they fit," explained Keana. "And I said, 'What do you mean they don't fit?' And I was trying to get her to say it. And she says, 'Well, they just don't match up.'"
Walmart says they are looking into the incident.
