It seems that most veteran rappers pen a memoir at some point, and the Beastie Boys are no exception.

According to the New York Times, surviving members Mike D and Ad-Rock have signed a deal with Random House subsidiary Spiegel & Grau to write a memoir. The book is set for a tentative 2015 release date, although a title has yet to be announced.

Publisher Julie Graud says the book will break from traditional memoir format, and instead will be an all-encompassing look into all things Beastie Boys, blending their oral history with pictures and musings on pop culture. The book will also feature supplementary writings from several journalists, including the book's editor Sacha Jenkins.

“[Mike D and Ad-Rock were] interested in challenging the form and making the book a multidimensional experience,” said Grau. “There is a kaleidoscopic frame of reference, and it asks a reader to keep up.”

Luke Janklow, the group's agent, says the Beastie Boys had been in talks to write a memoir for quite some time before the official announcement, but the death of MCA last year put the book off indefinitely.

“After Yauch died, I didn’t push them, but I think that Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them,” Janklow said. “The first words out of Mike’s mouth were, ‘I don’t want to do a straight memoir.’"
