After serving nearly two full years in the Mid-State Correctional Facility in upstate New York starting back in June of 2011, Ja Rule has finally been released.  However, he won't be able to celebrate his freedom just yet, as he has around 6 months left to serve for tax evasion charges which were separate from the gun charges that he's been incarcerated upstate for.

Rule owes $1.1 million dollars in back taxes to the government and was given a 28-month sentence for that charge, so since he's already completed most of his time for the gun charges he'll only have a few more months to go for the tax evasion. It is because of this that once he was released from the upstate New York prison, he was immediately transferred to federal prison.

According to his defense Attorney, Stacey Richman, Ja Rule may be eligible to live in a halfway house after his remaining time has been served.
