Mississippi Finally Ratifies 13th Amendment & Bans Slavery

This might sound a little late, but Mississippi legislators have finally ratified the 13th Amendment to the Constitution--the one that banned slavery in 1865.
Back in 1865, three-fourths of the states voted in favor of the amendment, and by federal law, slavery was made illegal. However, states of course have their own legislatures, and have to approve such amendments. Mississippi opposed the amendment back in the 19th century, and only voted to approve it in 1995. But despite the piece of legislation being approved, it was never made official by the Office of the Federal Register.
Finally, on February 7, it was was approved, and Mississippi became the last state to ratify the 13th amendment. The second to last state to ratify it was Kentucky back in 1976.
