When you're 102 and 99 years old, it's the little things that count the most. For Norman and Norma Burmah however, their 82 years together as husband and wife is nothing to scoff at. In fact, they are the longest married couple in the United States.
The two met at a live performance by Louis Armstrong and married shortly after, way back when in 1931.
"We knew our grandparents were Lousiana's longest married couple and were pretty sure they were the longest living African-American couple in the United States, but the fact that they could be the country's longest living married couple is just phenomenal," said granddaughter Glenda McKinley. "We see them as our national treasure."
The couple has two daughters, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
