Dr. Dre & Beats Electronics Suing Yamaha Over Headphone Design

Dr. Dre has filed suit against Yamaha for copyright infringement, claiming Yamaha's PRO series headphones directly copy the design of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphone line.
"Consumers appreciated the design, as well as the sound quality, of Beats and began wearing the Beats headphones around their necks as a fashion accessory even when not listening to music," the suit reads. "In fact, the design of the Beats headphones has been a significant driver of the commercial success of the products."
The suit also claims that Yamaha's advertisements for their headphones are piggybacking off the success of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and Dr. Dre's legendary position in the music industry. Dre is seeking $75,000 on the basis of Trade Dress Infringement, Unfair Competition and Patent Infringement.
