It's been nearly a year since Trayvon Martin was tragically killed by George Zimmerman while walking to his father's house in a Florida gated community, and the hearing which will determine Zimmerman's guilt or innocence is still a good four months away.

Today was also the day that a judge denied Zimmerman's request for a five-month delay in the trial, saying it would start as originally scheduled in June.

The decision came on what would have been Treyvon's 18th birthday, which was commemorated outside the courthouse in Sanford, Fla., with community leaders and students singing "Happy Birthday."

Our thoughts go out to the family of Mr. Martin.
