MySpace's recent relaunch is centered around music, but the company is already coming under fire for copyright issues.

UK agency Merlin, who represents several independent record labels, claims Myspace is hosting their artists' music without permission. On the other side, Myspace is claiming that the songs, from artists such as Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire, were posted by individual users. Myspace promised to remove any songs the agency asked for.

CEO of Merlin Charles Caldas did not appreciate Myspace's response.

"I don't see ignorance as a justification for piracy," said Caldas. "If you're offering music, without permission, that belongs to a copyright holder in a commercial environment, the onus is on you, the business, to make sure those rights are cleared."
