IMO: J. Hud to Play Winnie Mandela in NEW Film
In recent reports, Jennifer Hudson has landed the title role in "Winnie," a new film by Darrell J. Roodt, the veteran South African filmmaker, based on the life of Winnie Mandela, wife of South Africa's first black president, Nelson Mandela according to Variety.
In response to landing the role, Hudson says, "I was compelled and moved when I read the script." Hudson addes, "Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I'm honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told."
According to sources, The film begins shooting on May 30th in the South African towns of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Transkei, and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his prison sentence.
IMO, after seeing J. Hud's outstanding performance in "Dream Girls" and her role as a personal assistant to Carrie in "Sex in the City," I am very confident that she will kill this role. I am definitely looking forward to checking it out when it hits the big screen.
And, speaking of movies... Who has seen the new movie "Precious?" Let me know what you thought of it.
