Chicago suffered through a very bloody "Wild Wild West" sort of year in 2012, with a 16 percent increase in homicides from 2011, making for a total of 506 homicides being recorded by the end of the year.  Out of those 506, 87 percent of the victims died from gun-inflicted wounds, according to Melissa Stratton, spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department.

Now it's only the second day of 2013 and already three murders have been reported, all the result of gunshots.  The first to fall from the power of the bullet was 20-year-old Octavius Dontrell Lamb who was shot down around 3:45am on New Year's Day, followed by 29-year-old Kevin Jemison who was shot in his head around 2:45pm on New Year's Day.  The final victim to be reported thus far is 19-year-old Devonta Grisson, who was shot in the chest in a drive-by shooting around 5pm on New Year's Day.

Aside from these fatal shootings, eight other non-deadly shootings have occurred which resulted in various injuries to the victims, but fortunately no deaths.  It looks like 2013 is going to be another wild year for Chicago residents unless something is done to curb the violence awash in the streets.
