An ongoing debate in the VladTV office has been about hipsters - really, what or who are they? There are lots of definitions, but according to research, being a 'hipster' is a state of mind, and is usually attached to young people who go against the mainstream, have an appreciation for art, creativity, intelligence, and fashion.
We've seen the 'hipster' make a strong push into hip-hop, creating a unique sub-genre that doesn't fall into the norms of gangsta rap, conscious rap, or mainstream hip-hop. Predominantly spearheaded by underground artists, these hip hop hipsters are blurring the lines between pure rap, hip-hop, R&B, pop, and rock, and in the process are creating their own lane, sound, and swag. Many artists get offended by being put into the 'hipster-hop' category, but more then anything it means they have abstract artsy thoughts and are able to create fresh content, and whether it be good or bad, it should be celebrated.
Here is VladTV's list of the top 50 hipsters that we think have created their own hip twist on hip-hop.
Let us know what you think of the list.
