This Saturday at the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, the original God MC, Rakim, will receive the highly respected "I Am Hip-Hop Icon Award".

The famed lyricist who changed hip hop with his multi-syllabic rhyming will receive the award as a celebration of his timeless contributions to rap. Not only does Rakim remain one of the best rappers of all time, his work with Eric B is highly touted and generally considered legendary.

Previous winners of the award are Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube, Salt N Pepa, and LL Cool J.

Though the award show will be taped on September 29, it will not air until October 9.
