Despite modern digital music services such as iTunes and Spotify, for many, the temptations of copping music for free are often too strong to resist. Musicmetric's Digital Music Index measures trends in music around the world, including that of illegal downloading.
From 2011-2012, DMI tracked 750,000 musical artists and found that 405 million musical releases had been pirated in just half the year. Interestingly, Drake topped the list as the most illegally downloaded artist in the U.S., with Kanye West topping the list in Canada.
And Drake still went platinum!
