Music mogul Chris Lighty was laid to rest today, September 5th, at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City. Lighty's family and friends, including a number of artists, arrived to pay their final respects to one of the most influential figures in hip hop. Many of his former associates and artists he had managed, as well as those whose careers he had helped in the past, attended his funeral, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, Missy Elliott, Q-Tip, LL Cool J, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent and Grandmaster Flash.
His passing has left many with a great pain in their hearts. His former client 50 Cent released the following statement, speaking very highly of Lighty, ""He was a good friend and adviser who helped me develop as an artist and businessman. My prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed."
Lighty was believed to have been going through a rough divorce prior to his death, which has been ruled a suicide after he was found dead in his Bronx apartment last week from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
His wife Veronica and his six children are believed to be attending the funeral as well. He was laid to rest in his casket wearing a dark suit and surrounded by arrangements of white flowers. A heartfelt slide show was put together consisting of memorable moments in his life, which played in the background during the ceremony.
May he rest in peace.
