Drug kingpin Griselda Blanco, known for her brutal methods of violence, was gunned down in Colombia by a motorcycle assassin on Monday. Blanco, who was often referred to as the "Godmother of Cocaine" and who controlled the Miami drug-trade in the '70s and '80s, spent almost two decades in a United States prison before being deported back to Colombia in 2004. She was jailed for drug trafficking and three murders, including that of a 2-year-old.

According to Colombian reports, two gunmen on motorcycles approached Blanco as she was walking out of a butcher shop. One of the men fired two bullets into her head, El Colombiano newspaper reported. Because she was credited for inventing these types of drive-by shootings, many felt this was the way she would be dealt with. The killing went down in her hometown of Medellin.

Former Miami homicide detective Nelson Andreu said Griselda Blanco had a violent death coming to her.

"It's surprising to all of us that she had not been killed sooner because she made a lot of enemies. When you kill so many and hurt so many people like she did, it's only a matter of time before they find you and try to even the score."

Blanco was with her pregnant daughter-in-law, who was not injured, during the time of the shooting. She was 69-years-old.
