Professor Fired Over Aurora Batman Shooting Joke

When you think of a really clever joke about a national tragedy, and a fresh one at that, it'd probably be wise to just hold onto that one. United States Merchant Marine Academy Professor Gregory F. Sullivan is facing the reality of dismissal from the Academy because he made a joke in bad taste, and was missing an important detail in the situation: the father of a student in the room was killed in the Aurora shooting.
Not that it's ever good to joke about a tragedy, but Sullivan claims he had no knowledge of the student's relation to the incident. Should he be fired for his tasteless joke? He has 10 days to appeal the dismissal.
