When Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin spoke with Chad Johnson about his expletives in a media press conference, he explained to the wide receiver how unacceptable that type of behavior and language was. That was before his recent and highly publicized arrest occurred. After the latest incident, Philbin felt he had no choice but to release "Ochocinco" from the team. In a brief statement, he explained how the organization made its decision.

"I'd like to address the roster move we made last night. As with any type of these decisions, it was not an easy one. It was not reactive. Nor was it based on one single incident. In making these decisions we base our evaluations on a set of criteria that supports our organizational goals and includes the player's performance both on and off the field."

Chad Johnson has always been notorious for his outlandish behavior and the wild manner in which he conducts himself. So, the organization had to know what type of player they had signed to their team in the off-season. The situation has now become a big distraction, and Philbin spoke about the issue to the team prior to Johnson's release from jail.

"I reminded them that on April 10th in our first team meetings, I said, 'Guys, I'd love to stand up here and tell you we're never going to have a problem here in Miami. Do we want high-character guys? Yes. All 31 other coaches are going to say the same thing. But I specifically told them on April 10th that there will be problems that arise and you have to deal with them honestly and openly and directly. You've got to learn from mistakes and move on, and you can't hide from the problem.'"

Chad Johnson now finds himself off of an NFL roster once again and if convicted of the charges, he could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine as well as community service and probation or anger management sessions.
