Thursday afternoon, a status update that was posted to the New York Yankees' official Facebook page in regards to Derek Jeter's health had many fans of the squad confused. The status read "We regret to inform our fans that Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the season with sexual reassignment surgery. He promises to come back stronger than ever in 2013 as Minnie Mantlez." The post was deleted soon after and the work of hackers was quickly thought to be responsible.

A number of other MLB teams' Facebook pages have had similar types of messages posted to their page. Teams like the Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Washington Nationals suffered similar issues, which prompted a Facebook spokesperson to say the posts were "actions from a single rogue administrator of these Pages."

The New York Yankees had no comment on the matter.
