It was reported on Thursday that long time UK hip hop radio personality Tim Westwood was fired from his radio show on 1Xtra BBC Radio. The news didn't sit too well with Westwood who immediately took to Twitter to drop the news and vent some frustration.

"I've been sacked from 1Xtra Mon-Fri 4-7pm from sept #Westwoodyourfired".

The 54-year-old popular radio host had a regular weekly show Monday to Friday and even though the end is near, Westwood will remain with the radio station and present his show on Saturday nights as well as a new weekend addition on Sunday nights.

In a statement from the station, Westwood says his three years spent on BBC Radio was "a lot of fun and a great experience".

But he followed up his previous tweet saying "I don't like gettin fired #Westwoodyourefired - 1Xtra".

Ben Cooper, who runs 1Xtra and BBC Radio also made a statement in regards to the situation.

"Tim has proved to be one of the most influential figures in UK hip-hop and I'm delighted that he will continue to bring his wealth of knowledge and unique style to Radio 1 and 1Xtra across the weekends."

Charlie Sloth will be heading things up when Westwood leaves in September.
