Squibb Park in Brooklyn Heights, New York, has been chosen by residents to be renamed in honor of late Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch. A petition began on Facebook to get the park renamed in his honor, and if successful the new name will be very fitting considering the park is currently being renovated and transformed into a skateboarding facility.
Yauch and The Beastie Boys are considered to have been a very influential part of the early skate and BMX community. Brooklyn residents would love for the park to be renamed, and given Adam Yauch's heavy influence in the Brooklyn community it's hard to believe that the name change won't take effect.
